I have spoken in the past about a presentation I give (and a course I have taught) called “Don’t wait! The importance of an aging care plan.” It evangelizes why planning is so important to having choices as you age and remaining safe. Inevitably, at the end of the presentation/course I am inundated with questions like: “What should I do next”? And “How do I know what vendors I need are actually great and not just trying to take advantage of the aging population in America”?
Since starting Caring Companions of Atlanta, my business partner Paul Demick and I have become very active is vetting vendors in the senior space. We take our mission and philosophy of “doing the right thing each and every time” to heart. As we navigate the waters of those that service older adults, we actively look for vendors we thing embody similar approaches to their respective businesses. Frankly, we won’t refer to one that is not 5-stars through and though. A referral to us, is a reflection on our reputation.
Judith Smith from MedicalAlert.com came across our BLOG recently and emailed me about if I knew of what her organization does. I didn’t! After diving in I came to find that they are a not-for-profit, community organization that is dedicated to researching personal emergency response systems and other assistive technology. Their goal is to find ones that truly enhance the lives of seniors and their families by coupling an independent lifestyle with safety and peace of mind. Sounded good to me.
The CDC states falls among older adults are extremely common with an estimated 2.5 million older adults treated for fall injuries in the U.S. every year. An estimated 25,000 of those fall injuries result in death. Justifiably so, 8 out of 10 caregivers are worried about fall prevention for their loved ones.
Please take the time to look at their website: MedicalAlert.org and a listing of the top systems based on their testing https://www.medicalalert.org/best-medical-alert-systems/. I get peace-of-mind knowing my 88-year-old dad wears a medical alert device on his person…and as a company that cares for older adults, we have seen real world examples where alert systems have saved lives.
If you ever have questions about where to turn for help finding trusted vendors in the senior arena, please feel free to call us…we are happy to help.
