As an avid cook myself, I am pretty in-tune with safety in the kitchen. I always have a fire extinguisher near by and also have an an excess of good (glove) hot pads on hand. I also have made sure my hot water heater is not so hot water can scald (not to mention saving a few bucks!). I came across an article that takes kitchen safety to a whole new level for seniors on AgingCare.com I wanted to share. It has some great tips including considering the handles on mom or dad’s pots and pans. Many seniors have had the same cookware for decades. A simple thing like different pots and pans that have dual handles and weigh a little less can make a huge difference to someone with arthritis. Have a read and cook on!

Essential Tools for Older Adults
Getting older and evolving technology don’t always mix. Heck, my smart phone is WAY smarter than I am and I feel pretty “with it!” However, seniors that do embrace certain technologies can benefit greatly through decreased isolation, encouragement to stay active, keeping current with medications and navigating safely and easily on the road. What many people do not know is that there are passive devices that can help too. One such technology, GPS insoles, are described in the article in US News and World Report Linked below. These can be especially helpful for seniors battling Alzheimer’s that wander and can get easily lost. Take a look…a little technology can not only make life easier, but even save one.
