Spring Season May Give a Boost to an Aging Loved One’s Recovery

Spring is often the season when people finally take in a deep, fresh breath of air and feel like winter has left them in the past. Millions of people all across the country prefer spring and summer to

winter. Winter brings cold, it forces people to keep their windows and doors closed, and shuts down outdoor activities, except snow related outdoor activities.

When an elderly person has been hospitalized, if it’s in the middle of winter, they may have emotional challenges that make it difficult to stay positive. Spring can offer them the emotional boost they desperately need.

It’s something to look forward to.

Even if we’re in the middle of winter, spring can be something to look forward to. When an individual is looking forward to going to the park for walks, setting up a garden, and doing other outdoor activities in the spring, they may be able to weather the winter season a little better.

That boost of emotional spirit is vital.

Sometimes, when we feel down, we may also feel discouraged. When you were depressed, did you feel like exercising? Did you feel like spending any time with friends or family members? Most likely you didn’t.

If a senior is withdrawing from family and friends, how likely will they be engaged in physical therapy and other activities that could promote a healthier and better recovery? In reality, probably not very likely.

It can give them a great exercise opportunity.

If the senior has been advised by his or her doctor to get exercise regularly, including every day, they may be limited on their options during winter. They may only be able to walk up and down the hall. However, during the spring, they might be able to go to a park, go on a paved trail, and walk.

With the support of a home care aide and a walker, if it’s needed, those exercises can be extremely beneficial for recovery.

Keep in mind, one of the most important things we just discussed here, was a home care aide. Even though spring can offer an emotional boost to an elderly individual, they should still have experienced support helping them each day.

When people rely on experienced care, it can provide them a great emotional boost, but also help them stay on track for their recovery. When a person is on track with their recovery, they reduce the risk of a hospitalization tremendously. That’s going to help them start the spring season off on the right foot.

What Our Clients Say

Wonderful Care! ★★★★★ 5 out of 5 – by Laura S. on Aug 14, 2017

My parents recently relocated to Atlanta to be closer to family. My father has Alzheimer’s disease requiring assistance with all activities of daily living. My mother’s goal has been to care for him at home and Caring Companions has made this goal a reality. The caregivers who assist my parents were selected with care to be a good “fit.” They are even better than I had hoped for. Both of my parents look forward to seeing them because they are so kind and respectful. They go above and beyond to support my family. I could not be more pleased with the caregivers and Adam Seever! Caring companions has truly exceeded my expectations!
