I come into contact with seniors on a daily basis and I am regularly amazed by their clever humor. It’s not that I think it would be otherwise, but the wit that comes out occasionally really cracks me up and reinforces why I so enjoy their company. I have one woman I drive to Doctor’s appointments and visit with often She has some trouble getting around and faces many challenges. None-the-less, every week she sends me a note about how she better get to the hairdresser so she can keep up her good looks! By the way, she is a lovely lady. To her, the cup is always half full even at 90+ years old. Another favorite expression of hers is “honky dory!” No matter the situation, whenever I ask how she is, she uses that phrase with a tone that often communicates that things can be tough, but life is too short.
For Christmas, I gave my dad a fedora — he lives up in Michigan and there are months where wearing a hat is mandatory. My step mom and I laughed out loud when he donned it for the first time and did a little Fred Astaire move. How debonair!
I came across a 60 second video that made me think of older adults having fun and I am sharing it below. No matter how tough things seem, if you maintain a sense of humor it can help smooth out the bumps. Honky Dory!!!!
