You Just Cannot Make This Stuff Up…

Hi everyone…Caring Companions had a weekly team meeting this morning and during the course of our updates. we all reminded about the bevy of truly unusual “stuff” we come across in the home care industry. Of course there are a lot of warm and fuzzies…the bond we see between caregivers and those they care for. Hearing a client say “you guys are amazing…I never could have done it without you.” “I just love my caregiver Hanna…she has changed my life,” etc.

HORRIFYING!!!!

There are also less fortunate incidences that include things like falls and such. However, the “stuff” we usually end up spending time on are the things that happen that just baffle us. We joke that a book is forthcoming of the situations and incidences we have observed trying to help older adults. A few we have encountered:

  • There was the caregiver that resigned because her roommate’s pimp boyfriend threatened to make her embark on a career in adult film
  • The caregiver that showed up to start with a new client and ended up on the coffee table because a tiny kitten moseyed out of the bedroom (apparently, kittens are bad news!)
  • The home with two 170lb dogs…the gentle giants!
  • Goats, goats and more goats!
  • The caregiver that was driving close to 200 miles a week doing errands with a client
  • The pearl white, blue landau-topped Buick Delta 88 Special
  • The “Five Card Monty” incident (save that for another day)

The list could go on and on…however, we will save the lion’s share for the book. Sure to be a NYT best-seller! Any title ideas? I’m thinking “Cosmic Imponderables: Our Adventures in the Home Care Business!”

Happy Friday friends.

The son of two social workers, Adam grew up in Chicago and lived there for over 30 years. He began his career at a Chicago-based marketing services agency determined to make his mark in the industry. In 1997 Adam moved to Atlanta while working for the Coca-Cola Company, where he spent 8 years in their sports marketing division. Adam left Coke in 2001 to join Clear Channel Entertainment and later went on to work both domestically and internationally for the World's largest sports agency, International Management Group. Adam eventually worked as a consultant and spearheaded numerous high profile projects including the building of Coke’s iconic Coke bottle at Turner Field in Atlanta. While Adam always felt lucky to have worked in the exciting world of marketing, he also felt the need to participate in something with more of a connection to the community. That quest eventually led him to earn his CNA degree and become an owner of Caring Companions of Atlanta, LLC.
Adam is married and he and his wife have two younger children. The family shares their home with two cats and two hermit crabs. The kids are working hard to get mommy and daddy to add a puppy...time will tell! They live in Sandy Springs and are active in the senior community.

    What Our Clients Say

    Wonderful Care! ★★★★★ 5 out of 5 – by Laura S. on Aug 14, 2017

My parents recently relocated to Atlanta to be closer to family. My father has Alzheimer’s disease requiring assistance with all activities of daily living. My mother’s goal has been to care for him at home and Caring Companions has made this goal a reality. The caregivers who assist my parents were selected with care to be a good “fit.” They are even better than I had hoped for. Both of my parents look forward to seeing them because they are so kind and respectful. They go above and beyond to support my family. I could not be more pleased with the caregivers and Adam Seever! Caring companions has truly exceeded my expectations!
